What Claude Certification Taught Me About AI

Written by: Sandy Moua, IT Support Engineer

AI isn’t powerful just because you use it — it becomes powerful when you understand how to build with it.

As AI continues to evolve, so does the expectation for how organizations use it. Moving beyond experimentation requires more than just access to tools; it requires a deeper understanding of how these systems work, how they can be integrated responsibly, and how they can create repeatable business value. That’s what led me to pursue Anthropic’s Claude training and certification courses as part of our broader investment in AI expertise and partnerships.

I came into the courses already holding a Microsoft AI certification and using AI daily. It was already part of my workflow. Helping with writing, problem-solving, research, and quick insights.

But courses like Claude Code in Action, Building with the Claude API, Agent Skills, and Model Context Protocol pushed my understanding much further.

Before, I viewed AI primarily as a helpful assistant. Something you prompt when needed. It worked well, and it was efficient. But through these courses, my perspective shifted.

I started to see AI not just as a tool you use, but as something you can design — something you can structure into reliable, repeatable workflows.

The biggest shift came down to clarity.

It’s not just about asking better questions, it’s about giving better instructions. When I began treating prompts as structured inputs instead of casual conversations, the consistency and quality of outputs improved immediately.

Another key realization was the importance of context. AI performs at its best when it has the right information to work with. Not just isolated prompts, but thoughtful context. When you provide that intentionally, the results become significantly more relevant and actionable.

I also began thinking less in terms of one-off tasks and more in terms of workflows. Instead of using AI for a single step, you can design processes where it handles multiple steps, saving time and creating solutions that scale.

This experience wasn’t about starting from scratch. It was about building on what I already knew and developing a deeper understanding of how modern AI systems can be applied more intentionally, more reliably, and with greater impact.
